HOUSTON – Houston trial lawyer John H. Kim, founder of The Kim Law Firm, is featured in an article published by The Texas Lawbook about how he has parlayed his business background and personal injury trial experience into a successful oil & gas litigation practice.
The Texas Lawbook article “Battered Personal Injury Bar Branches Out to Business,” (subscription only) features Mr. Kim as one of the former personal injury lawyers who now is hitting home runs in large, complex business litigation cases.
“When you are trying lawsuits right and left in the personal injury setting, you get comfortable with the courtroom,” says Mr. Kim in The Texas Lawbook, an online subscription news service that covers legal news in Texas.
The article notes that Mr. Kim “spent the first decade of his legal career doing personal injury work, but then 2003 legislative changes prompted him to look elsewhere.” So he surrounded himself with people who are knowledgeable about oil and gas and got up to speed on the industry. “You don’t get to go out and change your shingle from tort lawyer to commercial lawyer,” says Kim in the article. “You have to work at it. So much of a lawyer’s business is relationship-oriented or referral-based.”
Mr. Kim was named to the 2013 “Who’s Who in Energy” list compiled by seven oil-city business journals, including the Houston Business Journal. A veteran in the courtroom, he is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and serves as the current president of the group’s Houston chapter. He has earned selection to the Texas Super Lawyers list for 10 straight years. Mr. Kim is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He also has earned an AV®-rating from Martindale-Hubbell, the highest peer-review rating available.
The Kim Law Firm has recovered more than half a billion dollars for clients through aggressive litigation. The firm represents entrepreneurs, business start-ups, mid-sized companies and
established national and international corporations in everything from contract and complex business disputes to insider trading allegations, trade secrets and other intellectual property disputes. Mr. Kim and his firm represent plaintiffs and defendants nationwide in oil & gas litigation, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, securities litigation, claims of tortious interference, price fixing and other antitrust actions.
