HOUSTON – Experienced and respected Houston trial lawyer John H. Kim, founder of The Kim Law Firm, is scheduled to share his insights on trial preparation and trial strategy at an upcoming Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program sponsored by the Houston Bar Association (HBA).
On Thursday, January 31, Mr. Kim will discuss “Trial Prep: From the Womb to the Tomb” and “Trial Strategy: From Contract to Verdict” during the program, which includes 1.5 hours of MCLE credit for participating attorneys. The 8 a.m. event will be held at the Junior League of Houston, 1811 Briar Oaks Lane, Houston, 77027. Admission is free for HBA members and $50 for non-members.
Mr. Kim is a seasoned trial lawyer who handles high-stakes civil litigation for international corporations, in addition representing individuals in significant injury cases. Immediate Past President of the Houston chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, Mr. Kim is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He also maintains the highest rating of AV-preeminent in the national Martindale-Hubbell legal directory, and he has been named to the Texas Super Lawyers list every year since the list was first published in 2003.
During his CLE presentation, Mr. Kim will detail the basic timeline and rules that lawyers can expect to face from the moment they are contacted by a client through trial. Mr. Kim’s presentation and the accompanying materials are peppered with tactical insights about important matters for trial attorneys, including the advantages of a summary judgment motion even if you think you might lose, giving your motions a distinctive name so an overworked judge can find them, and what does and doesn’t work in discovery.
Mr. Kim’s program includes a discussion of the initial client meeting, necessary contracts, duties to the client, divining theories of the case, demand letters, filing lawsuits, answering lawsuits, checking insurance, combing through defenses, discovery, deposition, pre-trial motions, mediation and trial.
